Station Id# KMITECUM2 Oregon Scientific WMR968 Ambient Software Ver. 13.01
Station Location Servers Providing Services to Downards.com to provide weather to you. Weather Underground Software Developed by Abient Weather Weatherforyou / HAMweather FAQs Q: Why won't the weather report update? A: Occasionally our FTP Server located in Los Angeles, CA has to shut down for maintenance or other stuff. In this time the weather providers can not retrieve the information. Check back later and refresh your computer screen and it should update. Q: The weather information is real slow? A: As with any other web site, The usage of the internet becomes slow when millions of users are accessing the internet at once. Peek hours tend to slow all internet actions. Q: How reliable is your weather station? A: Orengon Scientific has been in business since 1989. They have producing weather and time instruments since. The WMR968 weather station is the most popular home station today because of it's accuracy. Yearly calibrations will be performed on our station. Our instruments are located at our site as close to the NOAA specifications as possible. Q: Why are my readings at my house different than yours? A: Weather differences will vary depending on your location. Wind speeds, directions, temps, humidity all vary within a few feet. Your height above sea level affects barometric pressure. Houses, garages, barns, trees, hills, valleys and other factors of such will cause a weather difference
Our reportings are averaged out over a short period of time which stabilizes the reporting. Wind for example varies within fractions of a second. Therefore it is reported as an average of a few minutes to get an average of speed and direction. This weather station is new to us and we are learning daily. We will try to answer any questions as best as possible by emailing them to us at the link below. A Privately owned Weather Station and Web site Funded by ourselves. See FAQs below. Q: Who is funding the operation of this Weather Station & Web Site? A: Our equipment, server, ISP, FTP and a whole lot of time, is soley funded out of my own pocket. At this time it is just a hobby to provide Citizens of Tecumseh,MI with weather observations from near downtown Tecumseh. The nearest official station is at Lenawee County Airport which is approx. 15 miles away. Of Course I would never turn down DONATIONS to help pay my monthly ISP & Server costs. Just email me and I will gladly give you my address so you can send that Donation. Tuesday August 14,2007, we experienced a critter problem. A squirrel decided to try and steal the debri screen out of the rain gage which caused a temporary disruption. We made a new mount with squirrel proofing. (We Hope) Due to having to reset and calibrate the rain gage while moving it, we lost the August and Yearly rain fall readings. Being new to this I am trying to find out how to add it back into the current readings. It is available in the detailed reports but does not show right on the current report screens. Also I have decided NOT to add history onto our site from NOAA. This history would be from another station 15 miles away and would not reflect Tecumseh's actual weather.
A: Dedicated computer in the works! We decided to build a computer just for the Weather Station. It may take awhile as funding dictates, but this computer will not be used for anything else. All my equipment is on a UPS (battery backup) The weather station has it's own built in battery backup. I know from time to time there are power outages. During this time hopefully I can maintain database records. I do use generator power during this time but it is a manual start and takes several minutes to start.
Q: What happens when a storm knocks out your power. Does the weather station still work?
Friday August 17,2007, Fellow weather buffs from Ambient Software Forums has figured out my problem and I have restored our "Monthly & Yearly Rain" data. It took a few hours to recalculate the amounts since we first activated the station in July but going back through the Data Log files, was able to get it back.
(Again due to never having actual public readings from Tecumseh for our rain amounts I am unable at this time to update the yearly amounts to reflect the full year of 2007) |
